René Marie
Voice, USA
René Marie, the multi-award-winning American singer, incorporates jazz, soul, blues and gospel in her singing style. She has quickly become a heroine to many; a woman of great strength, exuding stamina and compassion. Unmistakably honest and unpretentious, she has drawn a legion of fans worldwide with her powerful interpretations, electrifying deliveries and impassioned vocals.
It is hard to believe that René didn't sing professionally until after she turned 40. But in fact, the Virginia native, married at 18, mother of two by 23, only occasionally sang in public while she was focused on raising a family. In 1996 René's son urged her to take the plunge to pursue a career. What followed was a whirlwind of success and great critical acclaim rarely seen in the jazz world, from the LA Times to the Washington Post, from the Miami Herald to the Chicago Tribune. She has received many awards throughout her sparkling career to date including Best International Jazz Vocalist by the Academie Du Jazz (Paris) – Best Vocalist Rising Star Category Downbeat Critics Poll 2012, and has graced the Billboard Charts multiple times, propelling her to headliner status at major festivals in the US & abroad.
