René Marie is an award winning American singer, quickly becoming one of the brightest shining new vocalists. With the commanding voice of the classic jazz diva she moves easily between different styles, successfully incorporating Soul, Gospel and Blues into her Jazz idiom, and placing her among the top contemporary jazz vocalists on the scene.
She has received many awards throughout her sparkling career to date including Best International Jazz Vocalist by the Academie Du Jazz (Paris) - and has graced the Billboard Charts multiple times, propelling her to headliner status at major festivals in the US & abroad.
Unmistakably honest and unpretentious, she has drawn a legion of fans worldwide with her powerful interpretations, electrifying deliveries and impassioned vocals. It is hard to believe that René didn’t sing professionally until after she turned 40. But in fact, the Virginia native, married at 18, mother of two by 23 only occasionally sang in public while she was focused on raising a family.
In 1996 René’s son urged her to take the plunge to pursue a career. What followed was a whirlwind of success and great critical acclaim rarely seen in the jazz world, from Washington Post, to the Miami Herald to the Chicago Tribune. The L.A. Times called her "...a jazz singer with the talent, the imagination and the sheer presence to be included in the very top level of performers."
