Melody McLaren

Piano - Photography - Volunteer, USA

Melody began photographing jazz musicians in Certaldo, Italy in 2005 at Global Music Foundation's Tuscany International Jazz Summer School. Having trained as a classical pianist from the age of 3 to 15, her experience of attending GMF workshops in Tuscany and other locations across Europe re-awakened the joy of music making. Melody's interest in jazz photography emerged gradually alongside her development as a jazz musician.  As she explains,

"Photography helps me to capture visually the experience of connection and synchronicity that music-making provides.  It's wonderful to be able to document and share with others the sense of aliveness and joy inherent in witnessing great musicians playing together as one."

Melody and husband Ian McLaren are also long-standing members of GMF's volunteer team.
