GMF and Cegin serve up Jazz Poetry Feast at Cork Jazz Festival

GMF and Cegin Productions staged a unique collaboration between jazz musicians and poets as part of the Cork Jazz Festival 2010 Arts Fringe on 24 October.

Poets John Barnie, Martin Daws, Richard Douglas Pennant, Stuart Silver and Macdara Woods presented a verbal banquet of written and improvised words in styles ranging from lyrical to comical.  In this experimental format, each individual stood up to recite one poem at a time in response to what they'd heard from the others, generating creative tension in synergy with the improvisational spirit of the Festival.  Pianist Barry Green and bassist Flo Moore created a musical soundscape that complemented and completed the poets' performances.
