GMF Masterclass Series - Bruce Barth
Certaldo, Italy, 06–09 August 2011
A once in a lifetime opportunity to take part in 2 days of masterclasses given by Bruce Barth, one of the worlds great jazz pianists, in the stunning location of Certaldo, in the heart of Tuscany.
Bruce arrived on the New York jazz scene in 1988, and soon joined the great tenor saxophonist Stanley Turrentine; their musical collaboration spanned a decade. Thereafter, he joined the bands of Nat Adderley, and Vincent Herring's quintet with Dave Douglas. In 1990, Bruce joined the Terence Blanchard Quintet; the band toured extensively, and also recorded six CDs, as well as several movie soundtracks including Spike Lee's Malcolm X. These recordings showed off Barth's considerable gift for composition and arranging. Bruce has had extended collaborations with Tony Bennett, Steve Wilson, Terell Stafford, Luciana Souza, and Karrin Allyson and David Sanchez and has performed with Phil Woods, Freddie Hubbard, Branford Marsalis, Wynton Marsalis, Victor Lewis, John Patitucci, and the Mingus Big Band.
"I have a great love for excellent musicians, and Bruce Barth is one of my favourites" Tony Bennett
